This homeowner was looking for a fresh start. We removed all of the oleander, desert shrubs, existing borders and beds, while regrading a small portion of the property to utilize flood irrigation for fruit trees rather than just grass. We resurfaced the patio, pool decking, and paths while encompassing new ones for flow and formality. We added a large shed off the pool house and refinished BBQ space setting the stage for the new poolside dining area, complete with a custom bar and designer shade sail. We modernized the pool structure by cutting out the dated lines and replacing them with a large square baja shelf on one side and an equally grande, formal pool entrance on the other. We converted the hot tub into a spectacular water feature with stone columns rising above it to support the new pergola. We adorned the columns with flowing scuppers that cascade an astounding ten feet into the new feature pool, which then spills over to the main pool, creating quite an extravagant site! We finished this masterpiece off with a stunning evergreen passion fruit
vine which provides abundant shade, fruit and respite from the hot afternoon sun. A new matching pergola and patio in the main lawn makes for serene evenings snuggled by the fire under the alluring scent and serenity of the snail vine. Keeping a formal planting plan with straight balanced lines adds continuity to this traditional home. We kept it relatively low maintenance by underplanting the newly defined garden beds which suppresses weed growth, helps retain moisture, and shades sensitive tree bark from the harsh Arizona sun (without the ugly white paint). Using grasses and other evergreen perennials properly spaced limits maintenance to predominately one spring clean up. Hong Kong orchids set the stage with an unmatched beauty and provide gorgeous edible flowers in addition to shade. While Moringa lines the west lawn creating structure and a nutritional harvest, juicy table grapes span the adjacent rod iron fence bursting with sweetness! Lastly, we added simple but elegant string lights that glow through the tree canopy like a starry night.
